Teagan is almost 8 months and in those 8 months we’ve gone through more baby products than I’d like to admit. Every baby is different and has different preferences so as first time parents we realized we needed to test a lot out to see what was right for her personality.
Teagan is a pretty calm and content baby but during the months of 1-3 she wasn’t content for long periods of time in one place so it would be the rotation from swing, to tummy time, to mamaroo, to baby wearing and my day would continue like that. As she has gotten a little older, she’s acquired a taste for what she likes and we now understand what she needs to be content and I have a pretty good idea of how long that will last. Below are some of my most favorite products.
This has by far been the best product for Teagan over the last several months. She started in it fairly early because she is a 90th percentile baby. Whether she is jumping like a wild woman or sitting it in watching TV, she loves it. Mommy loves it too because she will stay in it anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour at a time and be completely content. I’m not sure why she has always preferred it to the exersaucer but I highly recommend it.
In those early newborn days, besides on me, the dockatot was the only place I could get Teagan to nap. She’s a great sleeper at night but has always been a terrible napper so a month in I was desperate. I took the plunge and bought the dockatot and it was just magical. I really don’t understand what is so great about it or why it soothes babies the way that it does, but it is worth every penny. After Teagan outgrew her rock n play, we moved her into the pack n play in our room but put her in it with the dockatot and she slept there from 3-4 months until she was 6 months old.
As I said above, this is what Teagan slept in from birth until she was 3-4 months old. We got the one that is the automatic rocker and I really think that is the only way to go. It has a 30 minute and 6 hour setting. She never had any issues sleeping and while she isn’t a norm when it comes to sleeping, I really do think this was an amazing sleep aid for her. And no we didn’t have any issues when we transitioned to the dockatot and now to the crib.
Teagan has gone through phases with pacifiers. In the beginning she wasn’t a fan of them. Then she liked the wubbanub and MAMs. Then she went about a month or two without ever using one and out right refused them. Around 6 months, my sister watched her and she gave her the wubbanub and she’s been obsessed ever since. The thing I really like about them is they aren’t lost as easily as normal pacifiers. I can easily find them and Teagan can grab it and put it in her mouth herself. I also really like how it’s become a comfort to her, just the animal part. Half the time she isn’t even sucking on it. She just likes holding onto the animal.
This is by far the best nasal aspirator out there. Far better than any bulb. When I was first told about it, I was like “absolutely not, that is disgusting”. I was so worried about sucking her boogies and it getting through the filter and into my mouth. I think everyone shares those worries but it seriously doesn’t happen. It is so effective and easy I frankly don’t think it’s even an option not to have as a parent. And it’s easy to clean so that’s a plus.
- Any toy that lights up/plays music
Teagan doesn’t have a favorite toy but she definitely favors a toy that both lights up and plays music. She really loves the Leap Frog Learn & Groove Color Play Drum. It’s pretty amazing that she has started to understand that hitting the drum makes it light up and make noises. That can occupy her for a solid 15 minutes which for an almost 8 month old baby, I’d say is pretty good. The other toy she has loved since probably about a month old is the Baby Einstein Take Along Tunes. She can easily hold onto it and again, it lights up and plays music so it’s a win.
As Teagan grows, I know she will evolve and be interested in new things and different products will become our go-to’s but up until now that is our list of products I swear by. Anyone have any tips or tricks for products that have worked for their babies?
