Over the last several months I had gotten a lot of new followers both on Instagram and to my blog so I figured it would be fun to do this post and share 10 things people might not know about me. Friends and family I know in “real life” may or may not know some of these so either way it’s fun to share!
- I used to have a blog with my best friend that we started in January of 2015.
It was called 2Blonde20Somethings. This was started back before engagements, marriage and definitely before babies. So what did we blog about? I don’t even know…just life in general, recipes, crafts, trying to get healthy, and our obsession with our dogs. It was really fun but life happened and it just died. Honestly it was just for fun and we had no expectations. We always joked we would eventually have to change it to 2Brunette30Somethings anyways!
- I Don’t Eat Pork
I stopped eating pork about 8 or 9 years ago. The original reason was because I wanted a pet pig and it just didn’t seem right to continue eating bacon. Over the years I’ve done a lot of research and pork is not only filled with large amounts of bacteria but the cruelty that pigs endure is the worst of any meat you will eat. Really, do your own research it’s disgusting and you should stop eating it immediately. J
- I Am Allergic to Chocolate
Sticking with the food category…yes, I’m allergic to chocolate. I can eat things like Oreos and ice cream sandwiches because it’s very processed down but most chocolate will make me break out in hives just by putting it on my skin.
- I was the President of my Sorority in College
Sometimes this makes me laugh because I never saw myself as a sorority girl and I would never ever think of myself as that stereotype but honestly my entire sorority was very down to earth. We invited people to join based on personality not looks and we formed real friendships. Our national philanthropy was the Make-A-Wish Foundation and we were able to grant several wishes which was so heartwarming. While I never imagined myself being a sorority girl, it was truly some of the greatest years of my life and taught me so much. Go Chi Omega!
- I Figure Skated Competitively
When I was younger I competitively figure skated. It was probably the most intense sport I’ve ever done. On top of ice time we would have to take ballet, weight training, and aerobics. It was nuts…especially as a young girl. We would wake up at 3am to get to the rink by 4am then skate until it was time to go to school. Then after school we would practice again until dinner, then homework and bed. My sister and I had no personal life and I ended up quitting because my coach wouldn’t let me skip practice to go to a birthday party. She ended up having skaters go to the Olympics so I think I need to reevaluate my life choices!
- I’m a Huge Denver Broncos Fan
I know this seems super random but it dates back to my ice skating days. Our entire skating team spent a summer training in Vail, Colorado and I just fell in love with the team and been a fan ever since.
- Wasn’t Sure I Wanted Kids
This all seems so ironic now as I am writing a blog focused on motherhood but really I wasn’t sure. Cary and I did a lot of traveling prior to finding out about Teagan and I think we were okay with the idea that we would spend our lives married and traveling. We were okay either way and I truly trust the timing of my life and I know things happened exactly as they should have.
- I am Paranoid
I have a very specific paranoia. I have this irrational fear of being stalked, raped, kidnapped, killed, etc. Literally all of the things you watch on scary movies and dateline shows is where my paranoia lives. If I walk the dog at night, I am looking around the entire time. I get uncomfortable if I have to be home alone with a cable guy, plumber, electrician, etc. It will be a cold day in hell before you catch me sleeping in my house alone. We have a home security system yet I still have a way of getting in my own head. It’s completely irrational but I think it all stems from a really bad experience I had in college and I don’t know if I will ever be the same. It’s either that or it’s because my older sister let me watch the Scream movies with her when I was way too young.
- I am a Child of Divorce
My parents separated when I was pretty young and officially divorced when I was 8. I am a firm believer that you have to do what makes you happy and you should never have to stay in something that is holding you back but I don’t want Teagan to ever have to go through that so keeping our family intact is always #1 to me. A lot of good came out of having divorced parents though, the main one being that I got the best stepdad in the world who has been the main male role model in my life, the person I refer to when I say “my dad.”
- Summer is my Least Favorite Season
Gasp! I know. I don’t know why, I want to love summer. It just seems like the thing to do but I just don’t. It’s always so hot and humid here in the D.C. area and it’s exhausting. If you want to enjoy the outdoors you have to get out of the house super early or go out later and be eaten to death by mosquitos. I’m not a big pool or beach person; I never have been. My mom has had some skin cancer issues so I avoid the sun because of that and I also want beautiful, wrinkle free skin as I age…even if that means being Casper now. Bring on fall!
Well, there you have it…10 things you may not know about me. Thanks for following along on my journey whether it be here or on Instagram! It’s been a blast connecting with other moms and bloggers!
