Essential Oils

All About My First Month Using Essential Oils

I can’t believe it’s been over a month since I got my Young Living Premium Starter kit. I honestly thought I would start out really slow, for example just diffusing at night and putting drops of lemon in my water. But I immediately saw positive results when it came to aiding my sleep issues that I became obsessed.

I started researching other ways I could aid in the struggles I was dealing with using essential oils. At this point, I was still not diagnosed with Graves Disease so all of my symptoms seemed like random, unrelated issues. I noticed that every issue I was dealing with whether I ate something that didn’t agree with me or I just felt like I needed some emotional support, I felt better with every oil I used.

I started using them topically, internally and aromatically every single day. I now notice myself reaching for an oil versus reaching for an over the counter medicine. Don’t misunderstand me, I believe in western medicine and believe there is a time and place for it, but if I can aid in my wellness with a more natural option first, I love that.

While essential oils seem like the newest fad, they have actually been around for thousands of years dating all the way back to biblical times.

Why I Choose Young Living?

There are a lot of oil companies out there these days but what I learned through my extensive research is that they are not all created equal. There aren’t a whole lot of regulations when it comes to essential oils so companies make a lot of claims that aren’t necessarily truthful to the consumer. For example, did you know that a company can claim on their bottle that it contains 100% pure essential oil on it while really only having 5% pure oil? Wild and scary right? So, what’s in the other 95%? It can be filled with toxic chemicals, cheap fillers to stretch the oil further, and artificial fragrances. All of Young Living’s oils smell like the plant because the only thing in the bottle is from the plant itself. For example, there are companies out there that their peppermint smells sweet versus like the actual plant. That is a red flag to me.

Young Living has what is called the Seed to Seal promise where they control every aspect of the process from the seed going into the ground, to the harvest, distilling process, and bottling it before it comes to me, all of that while not using pesticides. They own their own farms and their quality control standards are exceptionally high.

The vitality line that Young Living offers makes it easy to know which oils are safe for internal use and that gives me peace of mind. As a new oil user, I find it so helpful because I don’t know every oil like the back of my hand…yet. On this same point, their kids and pet line also sold me. They take the confusion out of it and with how wild and chaotic our day to day is now, something easy is welcomed.

How I Plan to Use Them Moving Forward

I will do a post in the future on all the ways we have incorporated oils into our daily lives and how we are slowly riding our home of toxic chemicals. This will be a slow process because I will never be able to justify purging all the things and dropping a large sum of money on non-toxic options but as I run out of a product I will replace with a Young Living product.

I have learned a lot in the last month and a half and honestly, I feel so dumb. How did I not know so many things in my home were so bad? Right down to the candles I was burning every.single.day. I genuinely believe that you can’t help what you don’t know but I also believe that if you know better, you do better.  I encourage everyone to get the “Think Dirty” app and find out where your products fall on the toxicity scale. It’s just enlightening.

I feel so emotional about my whole oils experience thus far. I’m sure a big part of that has to do with my recent diagnosis but I think it’s also realizing I can do better for myself and for my family. It’s encouraging to have a huge community of people to help show me the way. It’s encouraging to know that I’m now not only fueling my body with nutrient dense food but now I am also supporting all my systems through oils/supplements and it’s so dang easy. Anyone can use them. And maybe you aren’t into oils but you are into toxic free products. Young Living has an entire Thieves line devoted just to that very thing. There is something for everyone.

How to Get Started with Your Toxic-Free Journey

I never knew all the history behind oils or that companies actually can be so misleading (sigh). Your post inspired me to take a look at more things we are using around the house and how harmful they can be! I’m definitely going to download that app and I’ll definitely be looking into using oils more.

what do you think?

  • Our little guy’s nursery is almost ready, just a few more finishing touches to the other side of the room and we will be done. It’s surreal to walk in this room and imagine him here. We decided to go a little more minimalistic this time around and this convertible crib from @deltachildren was the perfect addition. We also got a dual sided crib and toddler mattress to go along with it from them. Both are super affordable and I’ll be sharing more in my stories including links on where you can purchase. Only about 6 more weeks and you’ll be here sweet boy 💙 #33weekspregnant #sponsored #deltachildren
  • Holy moly 7 more weeks until our due date! The second half of this pregnancy has been flying by and I’ve never been so content to be so extremely achy and tired! Pregnancy after miscarriage definitely gives you this heightened appreciation for each passing day. I have this enormous amount of gratitude that God entrusted me with this perfect rainbow baby! 💙🌈 #33weekspregnant #rainbowbaby #pregnancyafterloss
  • I see so many littles heading back to school and it’s making me realize Teagan starts pre-school in just a few weeks and I have to make sure she’s equipped with all the essentials to keep her healthy. But first, tonight I’ll be going live at 9pm EST to talk all about the essential oils I’ve been using for pregnancy, preparing for labor and ones that will be imperative postpartum. I’ve already gotten so many amazing questions but feel free to leave more below! Essential oils can be super confusing at first but I hope I make it easier through these lives to see that they are actually the easiest thing to add into your toolkit! 💕 #32weekspregnant

  • Did you know that your sense of smell is the only sense that stimulates your limbic system? It’s the sense that is most closely connected to memory and smell is highly emotive. It’s doesn’t matter what emotion I’m going through, there is an oil to help. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Be sure to check my highlights for a fun sign up promo! 💕🌈
