10 Easy Ways We Use Essential Oils Daily

Let me start this by saying I was a complete skeptic starting my essential oils journey. My high school/ college boyfriend’s mom was huge into Young Living so I was familiar with them but never a regular user. I also had no desire to learn more about them because I just assumed they weren’t for me. That was until the last 6 months when I started doing more research.

I was sick and desperate and figured ‘what the heck’ and went for it. I figured if this starter kit was a bunch of hocus pocus I was only out $160. Well here I am 2 months into this journey and I could slap myself for waiting so long. To think I could have started this over 10 years ago and who knows where my health and wellness journey would have gone. I’m just happy I finally found a place for them in my life.

There can be a big learning curve when it comes to essential oils but you learn quickly by using and figuring out how to incorporate them into your daily life. Which is exactly what I have done. This post isn’t about making a believer out of anyone; I genuinely believe you have to jump in when it feels right in your heart.

No matter where you are on your oils journey, I wanted to share with you 10 ways we use essential oils in our home on a daily basis.

 

  1. Diffusing

I love my home to smell good and I will say I used to have a candle problem. Literally burned them sun up to sun down. Now that I have learned more about the toxicity of candles, they were all thrown away and the amazing blends you can make with oils are life changing.

We also diffuse to aid in restful sleep, to keep ourselves above the wellness line, for emotional support. The list goes on and on.

 

  1. Cleaning

Between a toddler, our dog and my husband…this house doesn’t stay clean for long. Since becoming introduced to Thieves cleaner, my cleaning game has totally changed. I use it on all my everyday surfaces and also in our shower and tubs. It cleans so much better than all other products I’ve used in the past and the best part…it’s non-toxic.

 

  1. Laundry

I learned soon after I started using essential oils that one of the most toxic things in our homes are dryer sheets. I was shocked. Luckily, it’s incredibly cheap and easy to replace them. I bought these wool dryer balls off amazon for $10 and drop a few drops of oil on each one and throw 3 into the dryer. I am currently using Lavender and Purification but you can use whatever smells good to you.

 

  1. Flavoring My Water

While I like plain water, I know that I drink more when I flavor it. I like putting a drop of grapefruit, lemon or lime in throughout the day. Teagan is a big fan too.

 

  1. Skincare

There are so many great oils for your skin but from the premium starter kit, lavender and frankincense are my go-to’s. After I wash my face, I take a drop of lavender and rub it all over my face. Then I take a drop of frankincense and do the same. Don’t forget your neck! I follow it up with my moisturizer which if anyone is interested in that homemade recipe, leave a comment below and I can post that later.

 

  1. Emotional Support

I’d say overall, I am a pretty emotionally balanced person but the last several months have been a whirlwind for me and sometimes I find myself feeling…well not like myself. I wake up and put on the Joy essential oil first thing in the morning. On my wrists, back of my neck and over my heart. When my little gal is having a day, I roll on stress away because it smells like the beach and how does the stress not melt away when you are at the beach? These are my two current favorites but the possibilities are endless.

 

  1. Digestive Support

I have always had a sensitive stomach but since changing my diet I feel like I have no idea what will upset it so I just use oils preventively now. Digize comes in the starter kit as does a fitment roller so I just popped that on there and rub in right under my belly button every night before bed.

 

  1. Aching Muscles and Head Tension

Unfortunately, some territory that goes along with an autoimmune disease can be achy joints and sore muscles…for no reason, at any time. When I have days like that I like to take a few drops of Panaway oil with a few drops of fractionated coconut oil and then rub it on whatever area. Same goes for any head tension I’m feeling throughout the days.

 

  1. Lavender Beauty Regimen

I could write a whole post solely on ways to use lavender because lavender is seriously the Swiss army knife of oils but I will keep it to a few. The first way is adding 2 drops of lavender to my tube of mascara. This is good enough for the entire tube and I swear it has made my lashes start growing. At $11.75 a bottle, that means you can help grow your lashes for a little over 20 cents. Yes please!

The second way I use lavender oil is in my hair. I have a lot of hair but it is fine so it tangles so easily and brushing it after a shower is work. So, I filled a bottle with some lavender, orange, cedarwood, vegetable glycerin and water and just spray it in prior to brushing and it’s that easy. A great option for kids as well.

 

  1. Roller Bottles

This should also be a whole separate post because you can make them for just about anything but my favorite way to use them is for immunity. I made an immunity roller for Cary & I and then a more diluted one for Teagan. This gets rolled on the bottoms of our feet every night before bed. Anything to keep us above the wellness line and hopefully not getting to the point of being sick and needing antibiotics. This is also another great way to make your oils last longer.

So, there you go, just 10 ways we have incorporated essential oils into our daily lives. So easy, right? I know it seems intimidating at first but I promise the more you use them the easier it becomes.

    I have to try the dryer ball idea, I never heard of that before! I do use a diffuser and a blend for migraines (which works so well!). I also use a few drops of essential oils in a reusable toilet paper holder (it used to have scented beads inside it, then the scent wore off, and now I drop a few drops of oil on them). It’s a great, unexpected way to lightly scent the bathroom!

    I love anything scented, but always default to candles… but you have so many great ideas for essential oils I never even thought about! I didn’t know you could actually add them to drinking water, for example, and can’t wait to try. My shopping cart has been full of various essential oils and you just made me push the check-out button. 🙂

  • We head to the Outer Banks tomorrow morning and we are ready for some sunshine and beach time! I’m excited we have safe, clean products to bring along that not only protect our skin but also keep our sleep routine normal in a new place. On a serious note, I really do think as a whole we all try to minimize the level of what our bodies are exposed to and want to ignore that fact. That is until we are forced to pay more attention, for example, when we are pregnant or have a little one at home or get sick or someone in our family dies. Until then, we continue to burn toxic candles, clean with horrible products, eat terribly, not take quality supplements. Basically not adequately supporting our body to function at the highest level. I’ll be the first to say I ignored all of these things but I’m a firm believer that if you know better, you do better! I want everyone to have access to amazing products. I want everyone to have an oil to grab when they feel like they need some support. Starting your oils journey can be scary, overwhelming and confusing but you are worth that. Your body is worth it.   • Yesterday was a day to say the least. Being 25 weeks pregnant and being a full time mom to a hyper, strong willed toddler is not for the faint of heart.
